I’m sure it comes as no surprise that my daily prompt is about my girl Gypsy! She has got to be the best buddy I could ask for. She keeps me motivated and she is always ready for a walk, bike ride or to go on any sort of adventure. She is on guard for me at all times, even if I am just being followed by a blowing plastic bag in the wind. And when I’m sad or upset Gypsy girl is right there by my side tail wagging on the floor trying to distract me from whatever is hurting me. Thanks for always being here for me my little buddy xoxoxoxoxoxoxo 💜💜🐾
There is a lot of chaos going on in Alberta at the moment. A fire was started up north in Fort McMurray and has spread to surrounding areas. Up to 90 000 people have been evacuated and much help is needed. Below is the link to Red Cross where donations can be made. Thank you so much for reading and for your donations. It’s going to take a long time to build back Fort McMurray but with the help of Albertan’s and the help of all of you we can do this! The support I have seen has been amazing and has me crying joyful tears daily. Rental companies are offering up homes free of charge, hotels giving free accomodations, restaurants giving free meals, and the donations have not stopped.
I donated through Red Cross as the Canadian gov. Is matching all money raised. I also bought a bag of my favourite Acana dog food and some toys to donate as pets have also lost everything they once had and some have not even returned to their owners.
Does your dog seem out of control. This could be due to lack of exercise which I have mentioned in other blogs. It can also be due to lack of manners, both of these issues can be helped with the small task of a daily stroll. At least 20-30 minutes of controlled walking will increase your dominance over your dog and will definitely release a lot of pent up energy that often causes negative or hyper behaviors or in dogs. While walking your dog make sure to be in control and don’t allow then to pull or choose the direction you are headed! Happy strolling my doggy loving friends!!!
One of my dreams which I have mentioned before is to have a rescue facility in Alberta or BC so that I can help with the abundance of abandoned and rehomed animals. I love the slogan “Adopt Don’t Shop” and love the fact that more and more it is being spread around the internet. Don’t get me wrong I’m all for (healthy happy) breeders and know many people who have purchased from them. These people have also researched breeds and know that the breed they are choosing is a match for them. I feel like it is very crucial for breeders to have questionnaires in order to learn if the purchaser is suited for their puppies; however this doesn’t always happen and dogs are bought and homed for all the wrong reasons. Which leads to a dog who doesn’t fit the family and causes problems which usually result in rehoming or abandonment. Many people choose breeds for looks a lot and don’t look into the energy level of the dog or the mannerisms. Which can often be a deal breaker when raising a pet.
Usually when adopting from a rescue facility the workers ask a lot of questions and paper work is filled out and looked over to ensure that the dog will be well suited and successful in your home thus creating less of a chance of rehoming. Also the dogs for the most part have all their updated shots and have been spayed or neutered; which is so so important in the process of decreasing the amount of stray and abandoned dogs. As well many shelters offer ongoing assistance and tips in raising your new dog resulting in less dogs being returned to the shelters.
There is a major problem in Alberta with abandoned animals and it makes me sad to say that the problem is even worse in many other countries, we need to stand up and help these animals because they cannot help themselves.
Dogs look bored?? That’s because they would rather be out on a walk or doing something fun! And depending on the the breed your fur baby actually needs regular exercise for good health. May I suggest taking a walk and picking up some garbage along the way to celebrate spring and to help our beautiful earth!
Last week while Tyler and I were walking the dogs we wore rubber gloves and picked up almost a full black garage bag of trash that was on the streets and in parks we like to take our dogs too. Just think how satisfying a 30 minute walk and a cleanup of the neighborhood will be for your while family…..including the furry ones ☺
Like I have previously mentioned! My dogs eat GOOD food! Well I’d like to say they eat great, as I try to read labels and get foods and treats that are healthier and have less ingredients and preservatives. Pictured on left are yummy homemade fish fingers cookies I made for the dogs. However when it’s dinnertime around my house I can’t help but be thankful I’m human! Pictured on the right is some delicious spaghetti squash pizza I made. And on top of it my guy is THE BEST COOK EVER. 🙂 yep I’m lucky!
Around my house the dog bed that is used most often by my pooches (and friends dogs too) is the dog bed pictured above. This dog bed is in our hall closet where some of the jackets hang. This is the spot to be and dogs jump for a chance to sneak in before one of their fur friends do the same. Because the bed is in the closet they can fully see their surroundings and feel at ease while resting. Take care ☺ be kind to a dog today! ! Hehe and a human!!
Your suitcase is packed and everything is in order for your vacation. Might I ask what you are doing with your dog?
I would like to start this post out with saying I know of many reputable dog kennels who do a wonderful job of taking care of your pet. And as well have friends and family members that use them all the time and swear by them, so I just want to say I am definitely not dissing kennels or doggy day care businesses! I however haven’t used them on my own pets due to personal experiences while temporarily working at a dog kennel and grooming salon and just because of the simple fact that I hang with dog people and there is always a list friends and family I am close with that would jump to watch our dogs.
One of the thing that blew my mind while working at the kennel is that many owners wouldn’t ask where their dog would be playing eating or any of the important questions that should be asked. Such as where it would sleep? How about in a kennel for 12 hours it will be provided for extra $ if you don’t bring one. Or what is the capacity that the kennel holds, then they would have found out that it was 75 dogs in an open area together because that was the city limit. Walks? Ok but they are extra $$$. Not a very relaxing environment for your dog to be in while you are away on your vacation and A LOT of extra $.
What I suggest is to be close with other dog lovers which is also healthy for socialization of your dog and good for your soul:)!!! Then you will most likely have friends that are completely willing and happy to help watch your pet. YOU COULD ALWAYS ASK IF YOU KNOW ME. I do however also suggest kennels as they can be super convenient, great as well for socialization and can sometimes do lots of extras likes baths, nail trims and even grooming. However I please ask that when choosing a kennel you ask as many questions as you can think of and as well ask for a tour of the facility to get all the details to ensure yourself that your pooch is having a bit of a pet-cation themselves and you have nothing to worry about while you are away.
When I house broke my girl I read up a bit on puppy eating schedules and toilet schedules. I got lucky (along with good food and this routine) I got a good girl and she was just like the books said and when I would feed her she would need to go poop about half an hour later. She had very few accidents and I never had to use training pads with her. I like to always suggest this method as it’s great for your dog to know from the beginning that its not acceptable to pee/poo inside the house. If you are going to use pads or would like to have something just in case, I would suggest using newspaper as an alternative to pee pads. Although newspaper is obviously not as water resistant its motivation to get your dog trained effectively and quickly. Also it is very cheap and you are recycling something you already used. which is AWESOME!!
Ok so don’t just take my word for it! do some research and check out the best housebreaking techniques; dogs can learn everything from opening the door themselves when they need out, to ringing a bell to let their owner know its time. Take care and enjoy your day 🙂 Also remember that puppies are a lot of work to train!! Please only get one if you have time for them 🙂
I know that this photo doesn’t have green in and that is the point. I wanted to show you how dogs see. Not only are they thought to be near sighted they are as well red-green color blind. Meaning that they can’t see reds and greens. However they do see blues and yellows in a aray of shades and have great vision regardless of different light environments like humans do!
